Acknowledgment of Excellence in Health Technology Assessment

The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) regional resource hub at JIPMER has earned the prestigious 2025 silver award for its continued dedication to evidence-based health policy. The award was presented by V. K. Paul, a member of NITI Aayog, and Rajeev Bahl, Secretary of the Department of Health Research, at the recent HTA conclave called “ARISE 2025” held in New Delhi.

HTA focuses on systematically evaluating health technologies such as medications, vaccines, diagnostic devices, and healthcare delivery methods to foster equitable and efficient health system decisions. Established in 2017 by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the Health Technology Assessment ecosystem in India (HTAIn) and JIPMER hosts one of the eight Regional Resource Hubs (RRHs). This hub was upgraded in 2024 to enhance its capabilities as a resource center.

Since its inception, the JIPMER RRH has actively participated in HTA studies commissioned by HTAIn, the National Health Mission, and various state governments. As of 2025, the hub has successfully completed 29 assessments and currently has 10 ongoing projects, which include several multicenter initiatives.

Sitanshu Sekhar Kar, Professor in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, leads a six-member team at the JIPMER facility. Under his guidance, the team has conducted 35 national and international capacity-building activities and has published 24 research papers in renowned peer-reviewed journals, underscoring their commitment to advancing public health research and policy-making.

This recognition not only highlights the JIPMER hub’s significant contributions to health technology assessments but also emphasizes the importance of such evaluations in shaping effective health policies and ensuring optimal health outcomes for the population.
