Renewable Energy Partnership Expands
Nxtra by Airtel has significantly enhanced its renewable energy capacity by signing a new agreement with Ampin Energy. This deal will add 125.65 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, marking a milestone as the total partnership capacity now exceeds 200 MW.
The organizations have entered into a power-wheeling agreement to source solar-wind hybrid energy through the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). Previously, Nxtra had established two agreements with Ampin, amounting to around 75 MW of renewable energy. The additional capacity is set to be delivered in two phases from solar-wind projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka.
Nxtra’s CEO, Ashish Arora, highlighted the importance of this achievement, emphasizing the role of ISTS-backed clean energy in powering their facilities sustainably. “This achievement highlights our leadership in using ISTS-backed clean energy… boosting reliability and ensuring tangible climate impact,” he stated.
Ampin Energy has been supplying solar power to Nxtra through intra-state open access arrangements in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. With the latest agreement, Ampin will extend its supply capacity to 11 new states while introducing advanced technologies for large-scale ISTS renewable energy distribution.
Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, MD, and CEO of AMPIN Energy Transition, reinforced the partnership’s impact on sustainability. He expressed pride in collaborating with Nxtra to support their vision of creating green data centers. “With this partnership, we demonstrate that through a seamless blend of inter-state and intra-state renewable energy solutions backed by a pan-India presence, we can take any customer through a nearly 100 percent energy transition,” he remarked.
Nxtra by Airtel is committed to sustainability and joined the global RE100 initiative in June 2024, pledging to source 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, aligning with its long-term strategy to minimize its carbon footprint and impact on climate change.
