Recall Details

Stellantis is expanding a recall involving plug-in hybrid vehicles that may face brake pedal collapse. Almost 6,000 crossovers from Dodge and Alfa Romeo are being recalled due to concerns that the brake pedals could break during hard braking, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.

The affected models are the 2024 Dodge Hornet PHEV and the 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV, with 3,286 and 2,688 units affected, respectively. This recall builds on a previous notification issued last year, which involved around 21,000 vehicles, bringing the total number of affected vehicles in the U.S. to approximately 27,000.

To address this issue, Stellantis has instructed dealers to reinforce the brake pedal arms with a nut and bolt. Replacement of the arms will occur only if they are found to be broken. In the event of a brake pedal failure while driving, owners are advised to engage the electronic park brake to bring their vehicle to a controlled stop. Additionally, the vehicles’ Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system will activate if it detects an impending collision, provided it has not been disabled.

Stellantis acknowledges one accident related to this problem in Europe but reports no injuries linked to the recall in any other markets where these vehicles are sold. This latest recall follows 15 incidents reported globally.

Both the Dodge Hornet PHEV and the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV share the same chassis design and are assembled at Stellantis’ Pomigliano plant in Italy, where the potentially faulty brake pedal component was also manufactured.
