Project Overview

A consortium led by EDF power solutions, Al Khadra Partners, and OQ Alternative Energy has announced the financial close for the 120 MW Jaalan Bani Bu Ali (JBB) Wind Independent Power Project in Oman. The project marks an important milestone, following a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company.

Set to be located in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, roughly 440 km from the Port of Duqm, the wind farm will feature 16 turbines, each with a capacity of 7.7 MW. Commercial operations are anticipated to begin in the third quarter of 2027.

Once online, the JBB Wind Farm will provide renewable electricity to over 13,500 households and help avoid more than 270,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. The project also aims to boost local economic development by creating jobs and encouraging opportunities for Omani businesses during both the construction and operational phases.

Supported by Oman Vision 2040, this initiative seeks to increase the share of renewable energy in the national electricity mix to at least 30% by 2030 and aligns with the country’s Net Zero 2050 objectives.

Luc Koechlin, CEO of EDF power solutions in the Middle East, highlighted the significance of this financial close, asserting it reflects lender confidence in Oman’s renewable energy market. He emphasized the project as EDF’s first wind transaction in Oman, reinforcing their commitment to low-carbon energy solutions.

Sheikha Hind Bahwan, Chairperson of Al Khadra Partners, remarked on the JBB Wind Project’s successful financial close as a testament to their partnership’s commitment to advancing Oman’s clean energy transition. She mentioned the broader 3 GW power project portfolio her group is developing across the Sultanate, promoting sustainability and diversification in energy.

OQ Alternative Energy’s CEO, Salim Said Al Kamyani, expressed pride in the project’s significance, framing it as a considerable step towards realizing Oman’s renewable energy ambitions. He emphasized the importance of harnessing local resources for energy security, economic diversification, and sustainable growth.

As an international energy firm, EDF power solutions actively builds and operates renewable energy facilities, while Al Khadra Partners aims to accelerate the energy transition across the Middle East. OQAE, a subsidiary of OQ, focuses on large-scale renewable energy projects, reinforcing Oman’s commitment to clean energy.
