Stable Performance in Automobile Sales

In July 2025, the Indian automobile market demonstrated a stable performance across various segments despite a modest decline in the passenger vehicles (PV) category. Total PV dispatches to dealers reached 340,772 units, experiencing a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.2% from 341,510 units in July 2024, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Conversely, the two-wheeler segment flourished, achieving a growth rate of approximately 9% with total sales increasing to 1,567,267 units, compared to 1,441,694 units in the same month last year. Scooter sales alone surged by 16.2%, totaling 643,169 units, while motorcycle sales grew by 4.7%, reaching 890,107 units.

The three-wheeler market also displayed robust growth, with sales increasing by 17.5% to 69,403 units compared to 59,073 units in July 2024. Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, noted that all vehicle segments displayed stable performances and expressed cautious optimism for an uptick in demand due to the upcoming festive season, beginning with Onam festivities in late August.

Overall vehicle sales across all categories saw an increase of 7.3%, with total units sold reaching 1,977,442 in July 2025 against 1,842,277 in the same month in 2024. This positive trend is echoed in the export figures, with passenger vehicles exports rising by 9% to about 67,292 units compared to 61,929 units in July 2024.

Similarly, the two-wheeler exports experienced substantial growth of 33.5%, totaling 433,873 units versus 324,908 units the previous year.
