  • Karma Automotive unveiled the Amaris series plug-in hybrid coupe, set to launch in late 2026.

  • The Amaris features a modified Revero platform and is expected to accelerate to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds.

New Developments in Karma’s Vehicle Lineup

Karma Automotive introduced the Amaris series plug-in hybrid coupe during its inaugural Create Karma event in Irvine, California, on Thursday. The Amaris is intended to fill a gap in the lineup as the company postpones the launch of the fully electric Kaveya model from 2026 to 2027. A new electric SUV, the Ivara, is also slated for release in 2027.

The Amaris will utilize a modified version of the platform currently in use for Karma’s Revero sedan. This platform descends from the original Fisker Karma, which debuted over a decade ago. The Revero has been on the market since 2017, and Karma’s pivot to the Amaris allows for accelerated development compared to the fully new EV platform intended for the Kaveya, which is designed to produce over 1,000 horsepower.

Additionally, Karma announced that the previously revealed Gyesera electric sedan will initially launch as a series plug-in hybrid, featuring updated styling different from the original design showcased last year. The Gyesera is expected to replace the Revero later this year.

In comments about the strategy, Marques McCammon, Karma’s president, expressed that the company aims to create a variety of vehicles delivering excellent torque and performance alongside a reliable cruising range, a hallmark of series plug-in hybrids. These vehicles typically incorporate a smaller battery powered by an electric drivetrain, while a gasoline engine acts as a generator to replenish battery power, ensuring optimal performance during demanding situations.

For the Amaris, as well as likely for the Gyesera, Karma plans to implement a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine generator instead of the 3-cylinder used in the Revero. The current Revero can generate peak performance of 536 horsepower with its two rear axle electric motors and a 28-kilowatt-hour battery that provides approximately 80 miles of all-electric range.

While comprehensive details on the Amaris’s powertrain remain undisclosed, preliminary claims suggest impressive acceleration capabilities, allowing the coupe to reach 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 165 mph.

Karma has yet to disclose pricing or delivery dates for the Amaris and Gyesera models. The assembly for these vehicles is set to take place at Karma’s manufacturing facility in Moreno Valley, California.
